Get Well From Knee Surgery Gifts

Do you know someone who is about to have knee surgery? If so, they will face additional recovery time at home, and both mobility and pain may be an issue. Why not get them a few get well from knee surgery gifts to help them with their daily routine? Below are several suggestions for the perfect gifts to help them recuperate.

Food

Precooked casseroles, soups, or anything else that is easy to heat make great get well gifts. They can be frozen and then warmed later whenever the patient gets hungry.

Small packages of snack crackers, nuts, trail mix, fruit, and bottled water that can be left on the bedside table for easy reach are also handy.

Even better would be if you took food to them each day. That way, besides the meal, they have a daily visit and conversation with you to break up the boredom of being stuck at home.

Crutch accessories and more

Crutches are not known for their fashionable style. In fact, they can be downright ugly. Several companies make fun crutch covers in a variety of styles and colors for kids and adults.

Crutch totes, which are pouches that you can attach to the crutches, are also useful, because they have pockets for carrying keys, cell phones, or other items.

Walking with crutches often leads to soreness in the underarms. Soft, gel crutch pads make getting around on crutches a little more comfortable.

For cold climates, you can also find crutch spikes that attach to the foot of the crutch to prevent slipping when maneuvering on ice, slush, or snow. Some are retractable so they will not scratch floors when inside.

For a person who must travel while on crutches, buy a hitch that attaches their rolling luggage to one of their crutches. Backpacks can be uncomfortable and can cause a person to lose their balance, so these special hitches that allow the luggage to roll behind makes for a safer, more comfortable trip.

The old standbys

Of course, you can never go wrong with the more typical gift basket gifts. Magazines, books, word searches, and crossword puzzles can help the patient ward off boredom.

A collection of movies in their favorite genre also makes the time go by faster. For affordability, don’t forget your neighborhood library. Many allow you to check out DVDs as well as books.

Relaxation or meditation CDs are also a nice gift for someone who is healing. They come in a variety of sounds and instruments, from the sounds of nature to calming instrumentals.

If the recovering patient is a crafter, give gifts that they can work on while in bed. A quilter might like a variety of fabric squares and a small sewing kit. Cross stitch patterns are simple to work on while confined, or perhaps a drawing pad and pencils would be welcomed.

Others might like a puzzle they can work on a little each day or a jewelry making kit complete with beads, chains, and other decorations.

If you use your creativity, you can come up with a variety of gifts to help your favorite patient recover in comfort.

Buying a Home – Old or New?

Old homes tend to have character and a curious feeling of being settled into their surroundings. They have seen people come and go and for this reason people tend to be nostalgic about them. They tend to be central to villages and towns and those in the country tend to offer a readymade community. If you are considering buying one, you may have an image in your mind of a little cottage, an open fire, fresh flowers and a climbing shrub outside the front door.

The romanticism of an older home can whisk us off our feet and before long our visions blind us from what we should see. As magazine perfect the house could become, chances are it will cost you a little more than you expect. If you are going to buy an older home, be sure to invest in time to investigate its structural soundness. A property that looks sound to a lay man’s eye may look very different to a surveyor. Be prepared to take an element of risk when putting an offer in on an old property, after all if you find it needs drastic surgery you need to be prepared to pay for it. Make your enquiries while you still have the option of walking away. It is worth mentioning that many mortgage companies will not release monies until they are satisfied that the more serious issues are addressed.

On the other hand, older homes tend to be more spacious, ‘individual’ and altogether more appealing. Gardens tend to be bigger in older homes and sometimes even come complete with a vegetable plot!

In contrast, new properties tend to look stark. They have not yet settled into their surroundings well and the shrubbery has yet to grow up. Builders are interested in building as many properties on a plot as possible and this can sometimes mean you are crammed in with many other residents. The gardens tend to be fairly landscaped and neat although depending on the nature of the development still have the potential to be of a decent size. With so many houses on a plot, look out for windows overlooking your garden, you need your privacy.

Newer properties can be very well priced, especially for the first time buyer. They tend to be covered by the builder’s insurance for a fair few years after completion. This ensures that any teething problems the property may have are dealt with without the expense. They also tend to be very energy efficient and fitted with new fixtures and fittings such as kitchen cabinets. If you buy off plan, you can not only negotiate a good deal but you might be able to dictate the colour of your carpet.

It is a matter of preference of course whether you subscribe to rustic and old or fresh and new. The important thing to remember is that you should be open-minded to viewings and choose the one you feel most comfortable in.

The Things You Need to Know Before Deciding on a Particular Hairstyle

Have you ever counted how many hair styles there are out there? This may seem humorous but this is the reality. It would be impossible to catalog every hair style that exists.

It appears there is every imaginable style for everyone and any taste, type of hair, and for those whose would rather let someone with learned knowledge of hair to work their savoir-faire on their manes and the intrepid ones who would rather battle their own hair in the comfort of their private washrooms. I am in awe of the results of either one.

Although this really means that anything done to someone’s hair will invariably change again, at least it provides an answer for the reason why we see so many hairstyles that changes often.

I do not think you can stop at these but hairstyles will generally fall into one of these categories:

Short – this can include an extremely short spiky, sleek hairdos to slightly lengthier ones (bobs) with variations of bangs, layers that often include splashes of color that confer and edgy or sexy tone to the style.

The bob seems to be the mostly sought-after hairstyle due to its versatility. It can even morph into a completely different style of bob and become a new style of its own. Most people agree that short hair is by far the easiest to manage especially when you want to experiment further with different hairdos.

Long – It turns out choosing to have long strands is not a given for everyone given that long hair is beautiful when the locks are full and heavier, this leaves out those with thinning hair.

No matter, there are lots of contraptions and apparatus from flat to curling irons, rollers and various other ways to tame your hair into submission. Another important factor to consider is how color and highlights add something extra to the styling of hair.

An important factor in hairstyle choice that is not to be discounted is your facial structure. Most hair care professionals will say that it generally dictates what type of hair style will hide your flaws and what type will emphasize your attributes.

When we speak about care, there are many ways to keep your long strand looking neat and there are hundreds of ways people style their mane whether it be with different sorts of bangs, choosing different sides to part their hair, or even choosing styling products and accessories.

The question is whether every hair style we see on someone else will also look good on us. Most women will spot a hairdo on someone and either will admire it or will take action and demand to know the hairdresser who achieved such perfection.

Remember that people have unique attributes that may complement a certain hair style which may not necessarily work for you. It would be a good idea to run a style idea by your regular hair care professional or someone knowledgeable in these matters in order to determine what hair styles work or do not work for you. Do not worry, you will find a style as there are millions of them remember??

Giving Glass as a Gift

Gifts for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, christenings and graduations; glassware is always a safe, classic and desirable gift. How about glassware which has been engraved? This will make the gift unique to the recipient and shows that you have gone to that extra effort. It also means that whether it is a candle stick, rose-bud bowl or glass it will belong to a particular memory.

Alternatively you can look towards mouth-blown glass. Each item tends to be slightly unique and the hand-made element of the manufacturing process makes it extra special. Some workshops will let you have an input into the design of the item or have one made especially. It might be possible to combine this with engraving for that extra special occasion. This would mean that you not only have a unique item but one which is personal.

Receiving glassware as a gift is by no means a new idea; in fact it goes back centuries. The higher end of the market; the mouth-blown and lead crystal glassware, keep their ties with prestige and class firmly knotted. We still tend to keep our best glasses for Christmases and birthday celebrations. If you choose to give someone a set of glasses ensure you have the decor of their dining area in mind. Also, think about what they drink and their overall personality. With so much choice available you should put the effort into researching the perfect design for your friend or family member.

If the recipient is somewhat artistic, quirky or simply a lover of all things vintage, look into antique fairs for antique or carnival glassware. Antique glassware can be stunning and yet unique. It also has a history about it which to the romantics among us is a wonderful thought. Have a think about your recipient’s home and how they like to spend their time. It might be that they will get more use from a candle holder than a pot pourri bowl.

Candle accessories remain a safe bet. Even if you are unsure whether your recipient likes lighting the little wax lights, you can be sure that they will find a window sill to wear it. Even then, it is hard to believe that it will not be utilised at Christmas. The great thing about this glassware is that you can pair it up with a beautifully scented candle. Think about bringing old glassware back to life with a fabulously coloured candle which is obviously modern. Again, the history in such items is one thing, but giving it its proper use is another.

The great thing about glass is that it never dates. Look after it and it will only ever become more valuable if you purchase the right make and design. Research your purchase before you commit to it and remember to bear in mind the occasion as well as the decor of your recipient’s home. Their personality will also be important when choosing between a candle stick or whisky tumblers!

Flannel Robes Provide Warmth And Comfort

On a blustery winter day, there is no comparison to the feeling of putting on a warm flannel robe. Somehow the thought of putting on your robe eases the pain of leaving your warm covers behind. In many ways a good flannel robe is simply an extension of your warm cozy bed covers. My favorite thing to do is to throw my robe into the dryer for a few minutes and then putting it on becomes truly heavenly. The other great thing about flannel robes, besides how warm and comfortable they are, is that if you take even minimal care of them they can last you forever. I have enjoyed my robe for the better part of a decade.

Given my odd obsession with robes, I have every type of robe under the sun: terry cloth, wool, cotton, and silk. If you refuse to choose a flannel robe, my second choice would have to be a terry cloth robe. However, this would only be because terry cloth can also double as a towel, saving me from extra laundry. It is not nearly as comfortable as my flannel one, and does not hold up to the wear and tear of time nearly as well. I’m telling you folks, I think flannel is the way to go, at least in the winter time when the cold can chill your bones. And, for good measure, you should also go out and purchase yourself a nice flannel shirt and flannel pajama pants to wear underneath, and then you will be completely protected from harsh temperatures.

If you are a nerd like me, you are probably wondering where flannel originated from. Well luckily for you, I looked up the history of the flannel robe and found its origin. Flannel originated in Wales from Welsh coal miners. Their wives needed to find a way to keep them warm while they were down in the coal mine, and so they created this warmer fabric. While you are most likely not wearing your flannel to a coal mine every day, flannel is beneficial. Think of the money you can save on your heating bills!

Most of these robes have a belt so they are adjustable, as well as pockets to easily carry a pair of reading glasses or your cell phone. And while flannel used to only come in blue or red, now you can find examples of these robes and other warm flannel night shirt examples in a variety of colors and patterns! Most recently I saw a funky red and black version from my favorite clothing catalog.

If you think you don’t have much use for a flannel robe, you are wrong! Flannel robes are great for an evening in, as well as a lazy Sunday in front of the fireplace. There is nothing like grabbing a good book to read or just relaxing on the couch knowing you’ll be nice and warm for the evening.

Although I do not know much about fashion, comfort is my middle name. These robes are the definition of comfort! Trust me on this one.

Frank is a flannel night shirt enthusiast. His flannel robe is his favorite type of big & tall mens pajamas.

The Sweater Coat Gives You Dual Coverage

On a late fall or early spring day, a jacket is sometimes just too heavy. This is the perfect weather for a sweater coat. Most sweater coats are designed to look like regular coats with the only difference being the jacket material or fabric. Since sweater coats are usually made of wool or cotton, they provide a sufficient amount of warmth and comfort. It is especially ideal for those chilly fall afternoons and evenings. The sweater coat is something everyone’s wardrobe should include because it can be worn appropriately to a variety of occasions. And, because sweater coats are light, they can be a great option for layering.

One fatal mistake people can make with sweater coats is to get them too big. If you do this, your sweater coat can look sloppy, robe-like, and generally unflattering. In addition to making sure your sweater coat is not to big, make sure it is not too long either; A sweater jacket that is too long or too wide looks more like a blanket than a fashion item. Be wary of a belted robe style because that tends to make your sweater jacket look like a bathrobe. It is usually safer to go with an unbelted sweater coat versus a belted style, which can look too much like a bathrobe. Adding some volume to the sleeve can also help this look more fashionable and less like you wore your pajamas out in the public.

Another plus to wearing a sweater coat is that you can bring them along without carrying too much bulk, which is especially useful in the summers when you are stuck in a place with heavy indoor air-conditioning. Your sweater coat, even if it is long, takes up much less room than an actual jacket, making it just another reason why everyone must have one in their wardrobe.

A sweater coat can easily make or break your outfit in terms of style, color, texture, proportions, and fit. You are as stylish or well dressed as your sweater coat says you are! When choosing your sweater coat make sure to pay attention to fit and color. Choose a sweater coat length by evaluating it from the front, not just the back. Be certain your sweater coat and tops do not hit you at the widest part of your body. The sweater coat is part dressy, part casual, but completely comfortable. Why not add one to your wardrobe today?

On a cold day there when you’re putting on a few extra layers, you want to make sure you are both warm and comfortable when considering which pair of pants to wear. Adding a pair of men’s elastic waist jeans can be a good functional compliment to your wardrobe.

What is your favorite type of clothing when it gets cold and you need dual coverage? Dress in layers and consider what is functional and fashionable. There are many options for both men and women when the weather starts to get chilly.

Whether it is men’s pants, women’s blazers, or a discussion about the perfect sweater coat, Frank enjoys writing about comfortable clothing.

Davidoff Humidor-BLOG

What are cigar humidors?

Cigar humidors are containers that are used to store cigars. Most are made out of Spanish cedar. This provides an ideal environment for cigar storage.

What does a cigar humidor look like?

It looks like a simple wooden box. However, it does so much more than simply store cigars. Its most important function is to maintain humidity and temperature levels. This keeps cigars fresh and preserves their flavor. Devices called humidifiers are installed inside humidors to keep the humidity at desired levels.

Why are humidors needed?

Without humidification, cigars become dry and lose their flavor. They will also burn and ash too quickly. That is why it is so important to spend the money on the type of quality you find in a Davidoff Humidor. The serious smoker takes pride in taking care of cigars, and in the investment made in the fine, exclusive, hand-craftsmanship for which the Davidoff workshop in Switzerland is renowned.

Here, exotic hardwoods are used to manufacture some of the world’s finest humidors.

What do I need to know about buying a humidor?

Don’t Eat and Drive!

Don’t drink and drive makes a lot of sense especially considering the consequences of a DUI charge on your auto insurance policy as well as other aspects of your life. But what about eating and driving? No, sugar high probably won’t make you the menace on the road that alcohol will, but it is still potentially dangerous.

In England a woman was fined because she was caught on camera eating an apple while driving. It was considered a distraction as she was clearly driving one handed. I have a friend who drives with one eye, the other one having been removed as a result of a health issue. I would have thought that posed a greater problem than driving with one hand. Also, I am sure there are disabled people who drive with one hand, so what was the issue? For the apple eater, I must confess, I have no idea.

But there are some foods and beverages other than alcohol that should never be consumed while driving. That hot cup of coffee that is so necessary to ensure you wake up and function fully in the morning, that could be a major distraction on the road. All it takes is something to cause you to slosh some of the hot liquid out of the cup and into your lap. Yikes! Your attention is no longer on the traffic around you. It is not just the heat of the liquid that distracts. The idea that the pristine suit or dress you started the day wearing is now soiled, is almost as big a distraction as scalding yourself.

Donuts, cream buns, ice creams, basically any consumable with a gooey filling or consistency can become a distraction if that gooey substance breaks free and spreads itself around in unexpected and unwanted places.

Chocolate is one of the worst things you could eat while driving especially if you are a flashy dresser. I have evidence of this from personal experience. My husband is fond of both clothes and chocolate. Early on in our relationship, he nearly killed us both when tiny flakes of chocolate made a break for it and were clearly melting between the car seat and his trousers. The more he tried to flick them off the more the melting mess spread around and the less control he maintained over the car.

It was a near miss and not harm was done, except to the car seats and the clothes. Now the poor man is scared to eat a chocolate ice cream at the movies. He is scarred for life but only in the psychic sense, luckily.

Have you ever seen the way suede soaks up chocolate or coffee or oil? I am sure it is not cost effective or it would be used to mop up the latest oil spills in the oceans. Suede just loves that stuff, and as a driver, it is a major distraction to see it in action on your new or much loved suede jacket. Clearly, consumables are disasters waiting to happen when mixed with driving.

Distractions lead to crashes both small and large. Stay safe, be smart, don’t eat and drive. And your auto insurance premium will stay in the affordable range that way.

How to Survive Cataclysm in December 2012

According to several prophecies, the end of the world would be scheduled for December 21, 2012, on the winter solstice of that year. How to survive the disaster of 2012? The answer is given here.

December 21, 2012: End of the World

Predicting the end of the world is an obsession. In 1947, after the US atomic bombings in Japan, the Atomic Scientists at the University of Chicago have developed the clock of the end of the world. This conceptual clock on which “midnight” represents “catastrophic destruction” (the end of the world), also called the Apocalypse clock or Doomsday Clock, is currently set at seven minutes to midnight (11:55 p.m.), since 2007.

The end of the world has been predicted many times in the history of mankind. Recall, for example 1 January 2000, announced for a huge computer bug and the end of times. However, computers are still active and we are not dead. There would then have had a time difference between Earth time and the cosmic clock, which saved us from disaster.

A new deadline for the end of the world is set at the winter solstice 2012, Friday, December 21, 2012. This date marks the end of the long cycle of the Mayan calendar. It is the Mexican-American Jose ArgÜelles (Ph.D., a professor at Princeton University) that issued the first such case in his book ‘ The Mayan Factor :P ath Beyond Technology ‘ (1987), Inner Traditions / Bear & Company ISBN 0939680386. The ArgÜelles’s theory, linked to the Mayan civilization and popularized by New Age cults, is the basis of what is called the harmonic convergence or the galactic alignment.

This alignment of planets is expected to have catastrophic consequences for the Earth. The cataclysm will also take the form of drift of the crust caused by the warming of the Earth’s core, natural disasters, earthquakes, ice melt submerging continents, emission of deadly gases, changes in the field Earth’s magnetic, poles North-South shift. The last reversal of poles took place there nearly 780 000 years.

Survive 2012: your Taliscope or Talisman-Horoscope

The year 2012 would include evil and discreetly 666

2012 ⇒ 2 + 0 = 2 and 1 + 2 = 3 ⇒ 2 / 3 = .666 ! …

Moreover, December 21, 2012 = 21/12/2012 = 2 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 2 + 0 + 1 + 2 = 11

But in the Bible, as in the occult, the Illuminati and the Golden Dawn, like for the Jews, the number eleven is bad, because it is the number of the rebellion, of disorder and the Antichrist.

To survive the fateful day of Friday, December 21, 2012, simply wear the talisman-square below. Being of order 4, you would keep control over all four cardinal points (north, south, east and west)! …

21 of December, 2012 ⇒ 21/12/2012

21………12………20………12

21………11………22………11

10………18………14………23

13………24………9……….19

The sum of each of the 4 lines, 4 columns and 2 diagonals of this talisman-square is 65. The magic total is whenever equal to the sum of four terms of the sub-central square, order 2×2, bounded by the outside rows and columns.

Lines ⇒ 21 + 12 + 20 + 12 = 21 + 11 + 22 + 11 = 10 + 18 + 14 + 23 = 13 + 24 + 9 + 19 = 65

Columns ⇒ 21 + 21 + 10 + 13 = 12 + 11 + 18 + 24 = 20 + 22 + 14 + 9 = 12 + 11 + 23 + 19 = 65

Diagonals ⇒ 21 + 11 + 14 + 19 = 13 + 18 + 22 + 12 = 65

Sub-central square ⇒ 11 + 22 + 18 + 14 = 65

The Taliscope is a talismanic calendar which provides for each day of the year a talisman in the form of a magic square of order 4, whose first line is made up of figures of the current date of the day. Taliscope combines several parallel sciences as clairvoyance, esotericism and astrology.
